Universal May Help Jeon JI Hyun's US Debut
Tue, 13 Nov 2007 06:55:00 +0000 A report says that Universal Studios will help actress Jeon Ji-hyun's US debut.If confirmed true, the top Korean star, who is highly popular in Asia, will be gaining a significant partner in her advance to Hollywood.She finished filming 'Blood: The Last Vampire' in the US and is working on the Korean film 'The Man who was a Superman' at home. But she will return to the US later this year for automated dialogue replacement (ADR) work for 'Blood.'ADR will be done at Universal, which will also take part in the post-production film work.Blood was coproduced by renowned Hong Kong producer Bill Kong and French and Japanese officials. Fri, 28 Sep 2007 13:36:00 +0000 Actress Jeon Ji-hyun is set to make her big screen comeback by starring in director Chung Yun-chul's new film 'He Once Was a Superman.'The film's production and distribution company CJ Entertainment said in a recent press release that actress Jeon Ji-hyun and Hwang Jung-min will star in 'He Once Was a Superman.'The film, slated to open in the first half of 2008, is the comic and heartwarming story of an eccentric who believes that he is a super hero.Jeon will take on the role of Song Su-jeong, a documentary producer who will resort to all lengths, even manipulation, to create a program that will move the hearts of TV viewers. Jeon Ji-hyun Cedes Advertising Power to Jang Dong-gun

The finding is the result of a survey of 1,465 people in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province by brand consultancy Brand38 from March 5 until 15. The interviewees were asked to choose three stars they think are most appealing as commercial models. Jeon, who had always ranked top or second from the top in the biannual survey that started in 2003, fell to fifth place.Jeon Ji-hyun and Jang Dong-gun◆ Jeon Ji-hyun out, Jang Dong-gun inJeon took the top spot five times and second place three times in a total of eight surveys by Brand38, beating out superstars like Lee Young-ae, Lee Hyo-lee, Kim Tae-hee, Song Hye-gyo and Lee Na-young. So why is one falling and the other rising? “Jeon still has name value as the most bankable commercial model, but it seems consumers are getting tired of her eternal sexy image and so-called “mystery” which has meant she appears on hardly any TV programs except commercials,” Brand38 says. “By contrast, Jang has successfully changed his image through commercials from unapproachable aristocrat to guy next door.”◆ Where have all the pretty boys gone?Comedian and TV presenter Yoo Jae-suk rose to second place from 15th in the previous survey. Other comedians like Park Myung-soo (17th) and No Hong-chul (31st) also rose. That shows that good-looking stars tend to experience a sudden rise and fall.”◆ Who is suitable for what?The survey also focused on what type of advertising is suitable for which star according to his or her image. Jang Dong-gun, who is thought of as “handsome” and “gentlemanly,” was thought to be suitable for fashion and car advertising. Singer Rain, who is associated with “passion,” was judged to be perfect for telecom commercials, and “sexy” and “pretty” Jeon Ji-hyun and “sexy” and “attractive” Lee Hyo-lee were thought best suited to fashion advertising.◆ Politicians make it on the listWith a political season coming up with the presidential election, politicians, made their way into the list of the top 50. Jun Goes to Hollywood

Hollywood, say hello to Gianna Jun.Jun, one of the top Hallyu stars, is undergoing a name change as she makes her debut in Hollywood.Her management agency SidusHQ recently announced Jun has been cast in the role of a vampire hunter named Saya in the film ``Blood: The Last Vampire.’’ The film is a remake of a Japanese anime film by Oshii Mamoru.For her first Hollywood role, Jun has decided to change her name to Gianna Jun. This move has drawn mixed reactions from her fans.Her agency said Jun will use the Italian-sounding name Gianna for her roles in the United States and other English-speaking countries. Jun will still use her Korean name in Asia, where she is already well known. .Jun’s name change is in contrast to actress Kim Yun-jin, who retained her name when she moved to Hollywood. Kim stars in the hit TV series ``Lost.’’Although ``Blood: The Last Vampire’’ is still in production and will be released in 2008, Jun’s involvement in the film has attracted a lot of attention. The action-packed film will be shot entirely in English. Users of the color jacket phone in the Anycall series can, as the name suggests, change the phone’s jacket to go with the outfit they are wearing, the firm said. The producers of the commercial plumbed for a stripping contest to highlight the feature. In it, Jeon takes turns stripping with the male model in front of a cheering audience, treating each item as if it was the last only to reveal another layer underneath.Jeon had apparently found it a challenge to peel off several layers of clothing like an onion within the short 15 second spot. Though only seven types of clothing appear of the commercial, Jeon actually wore 20. Producers took pains to select the clothes, searching through Seoul’s markets every night to find clothing that would suit both Jeon’s slinky form and the phone she is selling. The clothes also had to be easy to take off in a short time.
