Updated: Walmart to Roll Out 'Smart Network'

Walmart, the nation's largest retailer, is taking its in-store network digital, a move that promises to redefine the nascent out-of-home video network medium. Rolling out in time for the holiday season to about 300 stores, the Walmart Smart Network will be powered by Internet Protocol Television, allowing content and advertising to be monitored and controlled down to a single screen.

Sports Retail to Roll Out Golf Network

Backed by funding from a group of investors led by Red Eagle Ventures, The Sports Retail Networks announced plans Wednesday (Sept. 3) to roll out The Golf Network to more than 100 retail locations in the next two months.

Nielsen, Integrated Debut OOH TV Metric

For the first time, the TV industry has daily electronic measures of TV viewing outside the home. On Monday (Sept. 2), The Nielsen Co. and its partner, Integrated Media Measurement Inc. debuted the first ratings results from the new syndicated service and announced two charter clients, ESPN and Zenith Media.
