Avid Gamer: Haze Demo Impressions
Sat, 10 May 2008 16:35:01 -0700
Avid Gamer writes:
"Haze, since its announcement in 2006, has gone through a lot. To begin with was a standard ‘not-ready-yet’ delay which set the game’s release as winter 2007, rather than its original date of summer 2007. Then Ubisoft announced that Haze would be a Playstation 3 exclusive, stating the development for the Xbox 360 and PC had been scrapped. Finally came a further delay to May this year. As customary with any new game, with only a couple of weeks left until the long awaited release, Free Radical have spat out a demo to finally show off what they’ve been up to over the last couple of years. The vital question is whether the game has the legs to stand up to the hype, justifying the constant delays."

GTAIV issues on PS3 'fixed', Rockstar offers apology to all affected
Fri, 09 May 2008 15:38:54 -0700
The recent patch released for PS3 has 'fixed ' the stutter and lock-up issues, it was linked with the GameSpy servers and the immense load they experienced.
Rockstar "apologize for the inconvenience this has caused." GTAIV should be back in the good graces of the Sony masses once more, hopefully.
They say the patch "prevents Gamespy 's servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up."
"We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary," they told CVG.
"We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible. This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended."
It 's unfortunate that even console games -- previously considered to be a safe bet for little to no problems -- are increasingly subject to rising issues. The chances of programmer woes go up when titles are launched on more than one SKU.

Avid Gamer: Emergency Mayhem Review
Fri, 09 May 2008 14:44:50 -0700
Avid Gamer writes:
"For weak games we often recommend that it should rented, but that’s not even possible in Emergency Mayhem’s case. We’ve struggled to write about it as much as we’ve struggled to play through it. It’s not good and fails in nearly every respect."

BioShock movie in development, Gore Verbinski directing
Fri, 09 May 2008 12:56:35 -0700
Looks like the rumor we broke back in January that Hollywood was flirting with the BioShock license was dead-on. Variety reports that Universal has signed a deal to turn BioShock into a movie. Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) will head the project and Aviator writer John Logan may write the screenplay. Take-Two executive chairman Strauss Zelnick, who was in charge of Fox in the '90s, handled the deal for his company and says the project will actually get made ... unlike the Halo movie.
