Gulf's laptop market rising 60% per year

The Gulf's notebook market is growing 60% year-on-year, according to Santosh Varghese, regional general manager for Toshiba's Computer Systems Division growth. Russia's MegaFon eyes Iran

MegaFon, Russia's third-largest mobile phone operator, is seeking to invest about $4.64bn to build a GSM network in Iran, reported Bloomberg. The auction of a third GSM licence in Iran is expected this year but the tender has not been announced yet. Batelco to invest $1bn in Saudi

Batelco (Bahrain Telecommunications Company) plans to invest $1bn in the Saudi market as part of a strategy to raise revenue by boosting its overseas operations, reported Arab News. The company is also seeking permission for an IPO and intends to list 25% of its shares on the Saudi bourse, Peter Kaliaropoulos, CEO of Batelco, said during the company's quarterly media briefing. UAE's IT market hits $2bn in 2007

The size of the UAE's information technology and communications market amounted to $2bn in 2007, an increase of 10.1%, a government official said on Thursday. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, said the UAE's IT sector is the fastest growing in the world, and will continue to increase at the same rate until 2010, when it will reach $2.5bn, reported Gulf News.
